Product Family Overview

The Recital 9 product family is a platform, user interface and data source independent solution that defines and delivers tools and technologies for building character based, client/server and internet-based database solutions. The Recital 9 product family is comprised of four integrated products that work against a common database engine.

Recital 9 Terminal Developer
Recital 9 Terminal Developer is the only cross-platform ANSI SQL compliant database and 4GL for Linux, Unix, and OpenVMS that has 100% language and database compatibility with FoxPro 2.6 and SCO FoxBASE. According to Oracle, statistics show that migrating your applications to run against a new database can amount to 50% of your overall migration project, and that does not include recoding of the application logic! That's why Recital 9 Terminal Developer is the premier cross-platform tool for running, enhancing, and supporting your legacy FoxPro 2.6 and SCO FoxBASE applications on Linux, Unix or OpenVMS without the need to rewrite the application, or retrain your developers and end-users.

Recital 9 Visual Developer
Recital 9 Visual Developer is the only product for Windows, Linux, Unix, and OpenVMS that migrates FoxPro 2.6 and SCO FoxBASE applications to the internet and transforms them into GUI client/server applications without having to rewrite the code. Legacy FoxPro 2.6 and SCO FoxBASE applications can be enhanced with full Windows .NET Forms functionality. Recital 9 Visual Developer extends the life of your existing applications, providing you with a greater return on investment, without the need to rewrite the application, or retrain your developers and end-users.

Recital 9 Database Server
The Recital 9 Database Server is the only cross-platform ANSI compliant SQL database server for Windows, Linux, Unix, and OpenVMS that has native support for Visual FoxPro 8.0 SQL and allows stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions to be written in a Visual FoxPro 8.0 compatible 4GL. The Recital 9 Database Server includes a Universal ODBC driver, a Universal JDBC driver, and a Universal .NET Data Provider. The Recital 9 Database Server has support for accessing disparate data on Linux, Unix, OpenVMS and Windows servers across the internet. Also includes support for server-side ODBC drivers, JDBC drivers and ADO drivers. If you know Visual FoxPro then you can be productive immediately with The Recital 9 Database Server.

Recital 9 Web Developer
The Recital 9 Web Developer Firecat Server is a data-centric HTTP Server that incorporates a Database and 4GL. Using Recital Firecat you can generate dynamic content web pages with the Recital/4GL. Recital Firecat can coexist with the existing Web Server on your system, so there is no disruption to your existing website infrastructure. Using Recital Web Developer, you can generate rich reports that can be integrated in with Recital Mirage .NET applications or Recital Terminal applications.

Features And Benefits

Leverage your existing skills
With the Recital 9 product family you can leverage the technical skills developers already have without the need to retrain them before they are productive.

Migrate your existing applications
With the Recital 9 product family you can migrate existing Recital, FoxPro 2.6, and SCO FoxBASE applications across platforms or to the internet and transforms them into GUI client/server applications without having to rewrite the code.

User Interface agnostic
With the Recital 9 product family you build applications for dumb terminals, telnet clients, web browser clients, Java clients, .NET clients, and ODBC clients.

Broad cross-platform support
Recital 9 products runs on Windows, Linux, Unix and OpenVMS servers with complete cross-server connectivity for accessing data across diverse platforms.

An open solution
The Recital 9 product family is based on open industry specifications with broad industry support and works with all major established database products, as well as it's own high performance database engine.

Integrate data from disparate sources
The Recital 9 Database engine has native support for accessing data from Recital, Visual FoxPro, FoxPro, Clipper, dBase, CISAM and RMS as well as open system gateways to many leading SQL databases.

ANSI SQL compliant
The Recital 9 Database engine has a complete ANSI compliant SQL engine that works with Recital, Visual FoxPro, FoxPro, FoxBASE, Clipper, CISAM, and RMS database files.

Visual FoxPro 8.0 compatible SQL
The Recital 9 Database engine also includes a complete Visual FoxPro 8.0 compatible SQL engine that works with Recital, Visual FoxPro, FoxPro, FoxBASE, Clipper, CISAM, and RMS data. The Visual FoxPro 8.0 compatible SQL engine also provides complete support for writing server-side stored procedures in Visual FoxPro, and also supports the latest Visual FoxPro 8.0 structured error handling language constructs TRY/CATCH/THROW...FINALLY.

Provides Enterprise Data and Legacy Application connectivity
The Recital 9 Database engine provides connectivity to relational and non-relational data sources, transaction systems, and legacy applications through native drivers across all major computing platforms.

Integrated XML support
The Recital 9 Database engine provides integrated XML language support providing Microsoft ADO.NET XML compatible data import and export that works with Recital, Visual FoxPro, FoxPro, FoxBASE, Clipper, CISAM, and RMS data. You can import and export data across platforms using XML.

Very Large Database support
The Recital 9 Database engine supports Very Large Databases (tables larger than 2GB) up to 2^63 bytes. Archiving large amounts of data in Recital 9 has never been easier.

World class customer support
Should you ever need help getting the most out of our products, our technical support team is available by email, phone or fax to answer your technical questions about our products. We'll provide the kind of support you’ll need during development and afterwards.

Write server-side business logic in the .NET language of your choice
The Recital 9 Database engine enables server-side stored procedures, business logic, and triggers to be written in a wide variety of languages. In version 9.1 the Microsoft .NET CLR will be integrated in with the server on the Windows platform (and also on Linux using Mono see http://www.go-mono.org ). This will allow stored procedures to be written in any of the .NET languages; C#, VB.NET, J#.NET, JScript.NET.

Navigational and SQL Data Access
The Recital 9 Database engine provides navigational access to databases as well as SQL data access. Navigational data access is invaluable when application performance is critical.

Local Cursor Engine
The Recital 9 Database engine lets you easily manipulate data interactively and programmatically using a Visual FoxPro 8.0 compatible local cursor engine.

Active Data Dictionary
The Recital 9 Database engine lets you create persistent relationships between tables, stored procedures, events, triggers, rules, and default values and store them in its Active Data Dictionary.

Database Events
The Recital 9 Database engine lets you control user actions with code that executes when a database is opened, closed, or modified.

Built-in Batch-Processing Capabilities
The Recital 9 Database engine lets you quickly and directly manipulate large amounts of data in corporate transaction-processing solutions.

Universal Data Access
The Recital 9 Database Server includes an Universal ODBC driver, Universal JDBC driver and a Universal .NET Data Provider for external client data access.

Structured Error Handling
The Recital 9 Database engine lets you control and encapsulate error handling in code using TRY...CATCH...FINALLY structure, escalate exceptions using THROW, and manage using Exception objects.

Choose your favorite Web Server
Recital 9 Web Developer comes complete with its own web server, but if you prefer to use your existing Apache or IIS web server, Recital Web Developer can be easily integrated with your current setup. The Recital Web Developer distribution for Linux and Unix includes an Apache loadable module and instructions on its installation. On Windows, Recital Web Developer includes an ISAPI filter and details on configuring IIS to work with the Recital Firecat Server.
